Our History

Great Community Transport has been servicing the needs of the community for over 30 years. GCT was a result of the amalgamation of Mountains Community Transport with Nepean Community Transport in 2004 by the then manager Helen Walker.

Helen started Mountains Community Transport in 1986. She received the Order of Australia Medal for her services to community transport and was a strong advocate for community transport, the frail aged and people with a disability and their carers for many years.

In 2014-2015, Great Community Transport provided transport to 3291 individuals, with a total of 78,080 trips. Great Community Transport was also awarded CTO Community Transport of the year in 2011 and Western Sydney Community Forum’s Zest award for Outstanding Volunteer Organisation in 2012.

Helen Walker retired in 2016, and sadly passed away on the 14th of September 2017. She was at the forefront of the community transport and the community services sector and held a reputation with many as a Stalwart. A large number of our team including current members of our senior staff worked with Helen and consider her services to be pivotal in establishing the roots of the service and achieving such an outstanding contribution to the community.

We can only hope that our continued hard work and dedication serves as a worthy cause in keeping to the legacy that Helen left behind.  That is why on the 1st of July 2019, Easy Go Connect (formerly Blacktown Community Transport) joined Great Community Transport so that GCT can become a larger organisation serving the residents of Blue Mountains, Penrith and Blacktown LGA’s.

Today, GCT has a fleet of over 30 vehicles based at 3 depots (Lawson, Penrith and Blacktown). We service over 5,000 clients spanning from the top of the Blue Mountains in Mount Victoria all the way down to Seven Hills in Blacktown.
